...................
There will two buses on each weekend, each with a professional tour guide who will keep you entertained (these guys are legendary so expect vastly superior entertainment than the Edinburgh trip!). As the buses are reasonably small, try to avoid bringing everything you own. One bag or backpack plus a carry on bag will be the limit. We'll be doing some walking and the weather tends to be quite cold so make sure you have good shoes and warm clothing.
We have a whole hostel to ourselves so expect a really good time!
Ok this is the plan for any of the trips:
DAY 1: To leave the University Main Gates at a time to be confirmed (between 3 and 5 pm), drive up past Loch Lomond over Rannoch moor, into the Great glen and onto the Island, crossing the Skye bridge to arrive to the village of Kyleakin where we will stay on Friday night.
DAY 2. Saturday early morning (soooorry) depart Kyleakin 08.00 and head North of the Island. First stop will be at Sligachan for a view of the Cuillans then onto the capital of the island Portree. Leaving Portree it is off around the Troterneish peninsula, stopping to take in the sights of the old man of Storr and the Kilt rock. Weather permitting, a good walk will be the order, either up to the old man of Storr or into the amazing rock formations that make up the Quirang. After our walk we will stop next at the ruins of Duntullum castle before heading into the astonishing Faerie glen for sunset. After all that, it's back to Kylakin for a well earned pint or maybe two
DAY 3. Sunday morning... guess? Depart Kyleakin 08.00 and driving south from the island first of all we stop at the castle of Eillan Donan as featured in the film Highlander. From there it will be through Glen Shiel to catch the Great Glen to Fort William where we shall pick up some lunch for a picnic in Glen Coe. After that it is over the moor for stories of great Highlanders of the past, before descending out of the Highlands and into the Trosachs and back to Glasgow, arriving between 17.00 and 18.00.
There will be plenty more stops on route, for coffee, for photographs or just because we can.
Accommodation will be youth hostel type.
We will be cooking dinner, so you will have two options: go and grab your own take-away food or maybe a group of brave volunteers may want to cook dinner for the rest. If so, we are willing to hear menus. So far, the best idea is to cook pasta bolognese or something like that... I am quite sure that we can do better than that! Any more international proposals?
