orientation 2007

Hey,
I am planning to begin my studies in Glasgow in September and as I have to book my flight from Germany quite early I would like to know whether the dates for the orientation programme for international students are already available... I have heard something about september, 11th?
thank you =)

Hey Cathi,

Welcome to Glasgow! I hope you enjoy your stay here.

I'm not sure on the dates for orientation yet, the International and Postgraduate Service should be able to give you all the relevant dates (i'll try to find them out and post them here as well). I'll tell you what I know based on last year - September 11th certainly sounds roughly correct for the start of everything.

Last year international all international students arrived 2 weeks before classes started (and some before) - the first week was international orientation, including information sessions, a Glasgow tour, a trip, and we held a salsa party. Its a really useful week and definately worth attending.

The second week is Freshers' Week, when all the students arrive, there are loads of events and parties and bands playing in evenings. You'll have to buy a 'Freshers' Pass' to gain access to everything, which will cost 40-50 pounds, but I'd recommend it and it will help you enjoy your first weeks.

If there are a number of people arriving early maybe we can organise a picnic in the park for people to meet up?

Calum.

Hey again,

I've checked orientation details with the International Office and 11th of Septmeber is correct for the beginning of international orientation.

We will also try to organise an event or 2 for people that arrive early, our Welocme Party is likely to be on the 16th of September. If last year is anything to go by it should be a fantastic night!

All the best, Calum.

hey, thank you very much for your quick reply =)
i am going to publish that in the StudiVz, a huge network in Germany, so that every German student who goes to Glasgow next September will be able to read it as well ...
there is still another question...I don`t know whether I should apply for a room in a university hall or whether I'd rather look for a private room...??

hi cathi

was hat es mit dieser studentenseite in deutschland auf sich????
was willst du in glasgow studieren???
