1st May Fling Ceilidh/Club night out (Bank Holiday

..................................................................................

Sorry to inform you that there is no discount if you buy your tickets on the door. They will be 10 pounds then.

...................................................................................

Sunday 1st May (Bank Holiday) at  ARTA club (The Old Cheese Market, Merchant city, Glasgow, map here)

Fling Ceilidh/Club night out

The aim of NIGHT is to have the fun and tradition of a normal ceilidh , but make the music and surroundings more contemporary.

This will be done by having a cool funky clubbing look to the venue and the band will have the DJs playing along with them and even scratching with them.

Tickets> you could buy them from Fopp at 10/8 pounds each, but hey...

Ticket price for the International Society is just 5 pounds. A fiver!

Contact guinternational@gla.ac.uk if you want tickets, NOW!!!!!!

The line up for the night

  Ceilidh Band: The Scotch schnapps
Djs: Gordon 'Harri' Miller (belo suns)
          Ross Mcmillan (belo Fris)
          Dj Sketch (Blanket/Cube)
          Billy Milligan (Budda)
          Richie Mcolm (Nude)
          Dj Mehdi (Art School)

Plus, the venue is AWESOME!

Many bars/clubs in glasgow have their own theme, for example Babaza has an Arabian thing going on, Buddha, Underworld and so on, but several of them become seemingly half-assed if you've ever been to Arta.

Set with ancient Roman decor (or similar), this elegant venue really stands out. It is well done, by no means over the top and makes you feel rich just standing in it. Even the bathrooms are something to be admired. You won't exactly pay 'Garage' prices for your drinks, but unlike many other bars in the city, you're not paying to be pretentious, you pay for the surroundings, the bar service (which is second to none in Glasgow in this reviewer's opinion) and for whichever band happens to be on in the larger room.

For an interesting review of the last Fling Ceilidh which happened in the Oran Mor a few weeks ago, read this article in the Sunday Times

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2090-1549389,00.html

"...The excellent band are enthroned on what was once the altar. The musicians’ contribution to the modern twist comes in the form of a pair of bongos, which seems to have created a new musical genre: ceilidh soul. Suddenly a very different sound blasts through the PA. “Sometimes I feel like throwin’ my hands up in the air,” yells the dance classic You ’ve Got the Love. Soon the dancefloor is a mass of uplifted arms. It’s almost surreal, hearing house music after the fiddles..."
