Hi Everyone!

Another week, and time for another newsletter. There's a lot of planning going
on in the committee meetings right now, and here's just a taster of what's to
come...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PUB NIGHT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As usual we have our regular pub night on THURSDAY - the same place, the same
time. For those of you who have not been there yet - it's the pub called
"Primary" at 8 p.m. As usual some FREE FOOD over there and lots of fun!!!! SO
Come along.....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CEILIDH (TRADITIONAL SCOTTISH DANCING)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As mentioned in last week's letter, this week's main event on SATURDAY 8TH is a
visit to the Riverside Club near St. Enoch for a CEILIDH. A true Scottish
experience, this is always great fun, and not to be missed! The club costs
£7.00 to get in (expensive we know, but worth it!), and we'll be going along
early to make the most of the evening. It has been recommended to take coins
along to pay for your entry as change is sometimes a problem. Dress code is...
well, whatever you want really, but if you've got a kilt, wear it! Meet us at
7.30pm outside Hillhead Underground, and make sure you bring a bottle of water
- all that dancing is thirsty work!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FUTURE EVENTS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SATURDAY 16TH OCTOBER - CLUBNIGHT IN CUBE
Still working on the details of this one, but it promises to be a fun night out!
The International Society will have it's own room, as well as free access to
the rest of the club. DJ Naeem (Blanket, Chinawhite) will be DJ'ing a mix of
RnB, dancehall, reggaeton, soca, and carnival beats.

Also on the topic of CUBE, all International Society members have FREE ACCESS 7
DAYS A WEEK on showing your membership card on the door.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SATURDAY 22 OCTOBER - TRIP TO STIRLING
Bet most of you have already heard about this place and it is really worth
visiting. Included in the trip will be visits to Stirling Castle and the
famous Wallace Monument. More information about the ticket price and time
will follow in the next newsletter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Something from our friends at FAVELA here for you all...

MELT in the Mediterranean
International party at Favela every Wednesday featuring a Greek, Spanish and
Arabic music fusion
Half price entry for GUIS members!
Limited free guest pass entry please email: meltglasgow@hotmail.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And lastly, a request from one of our committee members:

International 'Food Idioms' Collection
A GUIS committee member is embarking on a multi-cultural/lingual project of
collecting 'food idioms'. You know, things like "piece of cake", "he knows his
beer", "eat humble pie" etc. This is an earnest appeal for everyone of you to
contribute and expand the
collection.
Please pass on such idioms from your own country/culture as much as you can
recollect or reference, whenever and wherever to Srikant. In person at the
pub-nights - or by email - sriks@dcs.gla.ac.uk - or by mobile -
07717748029.
All contributions will be dutifully acknowledged and honored. Cheers.
